THE TWILIGHT SAGA

My first ever contact with the existence of 'Twilight' was when I watched the first movie adapted from the first novel. At first, I was a bit skeptical when it comes to this genre of movie as I am not really a fan of something superstitious and hard-to-believe magic. However, the urge to be acquainted with this movie turned stronger each day. I must say that my growing curiosity came from watching frequent Hollywood news on T.V. It seems that the movie was a huge success there and I told myself that I should give it a try. So, I watched the movie. For me, it was ok. From the scale of 1 to 5, I would pick 3.5. Apart from the good-looking hero and heroin, I felt that a lot of the scenes were too good to be true. That's it. I gave it a try. So far, it's not on my list of best movies.

However, things started to change during my most recent outing in Kuantan. A girl working in one of the CD outlets in Berjaya Megamall revealed an interesting fact about this 'Twilight' Saga. It all happened as I was browsing through some DVDs (no intention of buying though) and I stopped to have a look at the 'New Moon' poster. She mentioned to me that she had read all the four novels - the Twilight Saga (I was shocked to find that there are more of Twilight) and she said that it is one of the best stories that she has ever known. She strongly recommended that I read the novels, especially the fourth one. Amazingly, I became interested in this and decided to read the novels instead of watching the movie. So, I tried searching for e-Books on the Net and fortunately I found the complete collection. I read the first one though I think I knew the plot of the story as I had watched the movie earlier. However, my assumption was clearly wrong. The novel was way better than the movie. I found myself drawn to the character of Edward (of course, I imagined him most good-looking and charming). What makes it irresistible is the love (here comes the romantic idea again) with a VAMPIRE - who happens to be a perfect description of how a man should be; good-looking, strong, protective, loving and caring etc. This suits the girl's character as being weak, etc that proves to be a perfect love match. Believe it or not, I finished the novel in less than 10 hours (that time includes my household chores).

I skipped 'New Moon' and I read 'Eclipse' and 'Breaking Dawn'. Overall, I still prefer the first novel 'Twilight'. For a while, I felt like I'm more in the world of vampires than the real one that I'm living now. I must say that the writer, Stephanie Meyer is so brilliant in putting the X-factor in her novels. The delicious character of Edward blended with some romantic scenes with his girl, Bella, makes it a perfect reading. What I admire most apart from the character is that they pursue true love (rather than lust). Apart from that, I'm still sane to say that as much as I like Edward, a perfect man like him only exists in novels and movies.
